How the treatment works

It's not just extra brushing. It's a four-stage process.

Brushing alone can't reach a packed undercoat. The shampoo soak does the heavy lifting before the rake ever touches the coat.

De-shed shampoo

A specialty undercoat-loosening shampoo lathered twice. Slightly heavier than standard wash — it releases dead hair from the follicle.

Conditioner soak

Coat-matched conditioner sits for 5 full minutes. Detangle and slip make the rake-out way gentler.

High-velocity blow-out

This is the step that actually pulls out the dead undercoat. We work in passes, low to high pressure, until the air runs clear.

Undercoat rake and finish

A proper undercoat rake (we don't use a Furminator — it cuts the coat) and a final line-brush to even everything out.

Coat-conditioning spray

Lightweight finishing spray that protects the topcoat and reduces flyaway hairs in the car ride.

What we never do

No coat-stripping blades, no Furminator. Those cut healthy guard hair and damage the topcoat. We rake the undercoat — that's it.

Perfect for

If your dog leaves a fur shadow on the couch, this is for them.

De-shedding is built for breeds with a double coat — the soft, dense undercoat that blows out in clumps every spring and fall and clogs every vacuum you've ever owned.

  • Golden retrievers and labs
  • Huskies and malamutes
  • German shepherds and Australian shepherds
  • Corgis, chow chows, samoyeds
  • Any rescue or mix with a thick undercoat
  • Spring + fall coat-blow season (especially)

What to expect

It's a longer bath. The result is unmistakable.

  1. Pre-brush

We line-brush first to clear any mats. If we find some, we'll text photos and quote before continuing.

  2. Specialty bath

De-shed shampoo, two lathers, conditioner soak. Total bath time runs longer than a normal wash — that's the point.

  3. HV blow-out

Methodical, section by section. This is the part you'd never replicate at home — and where the magic actually happens.

  4. Rake, finish, brush you off

Undercoat rake, line-brush, light coat spray. We hand back a noticeably lighter dog and dump a small mountain of fur in the trash.

What clients say about de-shedding

"I vacuumed once that week instead of every other day."

★★★★★

"We have a 90-pound golden and the spring shed used to look like a small dog was hiding under our coffee table. Sarah took maybe a half-pound of fur off Charlie at one appointment. I vacuumed once that week instead of every other day. We're now on a 4-week deshed schedule, full stop."

Marcus T. · Ballantyne · Golden Retriever
★★★★★

"Husky in a Charlotte summer is a special kind of mistake. The mobile deshed is the only reason Koda doesn't overheat — and the only reason I haven't replaced the rug. Sarah does this whole methodical pass thing with the dryer that you just can't fake at home."

Hannah R. · Davidson · Siberian Husky
★★★★★

"Our Aussie loses her coat twice a year like clockwork. The standalone deshed is half the price of a full groom and 100% of what she actually needs. Smart product."

Cole P. · Huntersville · Australian Shepherd

FAQ

Common de-shedding questions.

Will this stop my dog from shedding completely?

No — shedding is biological. What it does is remove the dead undercoat that's currently loose, so it doesn't end up on your furniture over the next 4–6 weeks. Healthy dogs shed; we just intercept it.

How often should I book de-shedding?

Every 4–6 weeks during spring and fall coat-blow season. Every 8–12 weeks the rest of the year is plenty for most double-coats.

Do you use a Furminator?

No. Furminators (and similar coat-stripping blades) cut healthy topcoat hair and damage the protective guard layer. We use a proper undercoat rake plus a high-velocity dryer — the right tool for the job.

Should my doodle or poodle get de-shedding?

Usually no. Doodles, poodles, and Bichons have hair, not double coats — they don't have an undercoat to rake out. They'll benefit more from a Full Groom and a good brush-out at home.

Can I add this to a Bath or Full Groom?

Yes — it's a +$25 add-on with either. That's the cheapest way to get the treatment if your pup is already due for a wash. It's also built into The Spa at no extra charge.

How long does the appointment take?

Standalone deshed runs 60–90 minutes depending on size and coat density. Added to a Full Groom, it adds about 15–25 minutes to the total visit.
